iPhone and iPad

Jyotish Notes for iOS

Jyotish Notes collects no data. Everything you enter stays on your iPhone or iPad unless you turn on iCloud sync, which keeps it in your own iCloud. The app has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking, and every calculation runs offline. We never see your data — and we built it that way on purpose.

What the app stores, and where

To cast a birth chart you enter names, birth dates, birth times, and birth places, and you may write notes against a chart. This information:

  • is stored on your iPhone or iPad, in the app's own storage — and, if you turn on iCloud sync (iOS 1.5 and later), in your own iCloud, as described below;
  • is processed only on your device — all astronomical and astrological calculations run locally;
  • is never sent to us: no network request the app makes carries it to us;
  • is deleted when you delete it in the app (Saved Charts → delete, then remove from Deleted), or when you delete the app. With sync on, a deletion also reaches your iCloud and your other devices; deleting the app removes only that device's copy.

Birth-city search runs against a location database bundled inside the app (GeoNames, licensed CC BY 4.0), offline, on the device. The app does not request or use your location, and asks for no location permission.

iCloud sync (iOS 1.5 and later)

Jyotish Notes for iPhone and iPad can keep your library in step across your devices through your own iCloud. Sync is off until you turn it on in Settings → iCloud Sync, and you can switch it off at any time. On iPhone and iPad, sync is part of the subscription. More about how it works: iCloud sync.

Where it is kept

In the private iCloud database that belongs to Jyotish Notes, in your own iCloud: the Apple Account your iPhone or iPad is signed in to. The app uses the account the device is already signed in to. It never asks for, sees, or stores your Apple Account password, and it does not read your Apple Account's name or email address; it asks iOS only whether iCloud is available.

What goes into it

  • your saved charts: names, birth dates, times and places, each chart's settings, and whether it is in Deleted;
  • your chart notes, with their tags and the daśā details the app records with each note;
  • your preferences, including your default city and saved places;
  • the bookkeeping iCloud keeps for every record, such as when it was last changed.

Who cannot see it

The database is secured by your Apple Account. We cannot see it: Apple gives app makers no access to a user's private iCloud database, and your library goes from your device to your iCloud and on to your other devices, never to us. Other apps cannot read it either: iCloud keeps each app's data sealed off from every other app. Apple stores it and encrypts it in transit and on its servers, under Apple's own iCloud security and privacy policy; the app does not add encryption of its own. A strong password and two-factor authentication on your Apple Account keep it yours.

Storage

The synced records count toward your iCloud storage. As a guide, on the generous side: 500 charts take up to about 5 MB, and 500 full-length notes (1,000 characters each, written in Devanagari) up to about 25 MB more.

Stopping sync and removing the data

  • Pause: switch sync off in Settings → iCloud Sync. Nothing is deleted anywhere.
  • If your subscription ends: sync pauses. Nothing is deleted, on your devices or in your iCloud, and it resumes if you subscribe again.
  • Delete the synced data: switch sync off on every device, then in Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage → Jyotish Notes, tap Delete Data From iCloud (step by step). The charts and notes on each device are kept.
  • Deleting the app removes its data from that device only. The synced copy stays in your iCloud until you delete it as above.

Your use of iCloud is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy.

iCloud Backup

Separately from sync, iOS can include the app's data in iCloud Backup, the copy of your whole device that iOS makes on its own schedule. Where you have it switched on (Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Backups), your Jyotish Notes data may be in it. That copy is made by iOS, encrypted, stored in your own iCloud, and governed by Apple's privacy policy — not ours. We have no access to it whatsoever. Switching it off keeps your data on the device alone; leaving it on gives your charts a chance of surviving a lost or replaced iPhone, but iOS alone decides when a backup runs, so it may be older than your latest work, or not exist yet. Treat it as a safety net rather than a guarantee.

The App Store and your subscription

Jyotish Notes is offered through an auto-renewing subscription, billed by the App Store. We never see, receive, or store your payment details, card number, billing address, or Apple Account. The app asks the App Store one question — whether this account currently holds a subscription — and receives one answer. That exchange is between your device and Apple; no part of it reaches us, and it carries nothing about you or your charts. The App Store itself may collect information under Apple's own privacy policy — purchase history, diagnostics you have opted into, and similar — and none of it flows to Jyotish Notes.

Network requests the iOS app makes

Three kinds, and none of them sends anything about you to us: one small file from jyotishnotes.com for occasional announcements, an ordinary web request that carries no identifier, no chart and no device profile, with no logs on our side tying it to a person; the App Store, about your subscription; and, with sync on, your own iCloud. Everything else the app does happens offline.

Android phones and tablets

Jyotish Notes for Android

Jyotish Notes collects no data. Everything you enter stays on your phone or tablet unless you turn on Google Drive sync, which keeps it in a private folder in your own Google Drive.

  • is stored on your phone or tablet, in the app's own storage — and, if you turn on Google Drive sync (Android 1.5 and later), in your own Google Drive, as described below;
  • is processed only on your device — all astronomical and astrological calculations run locally;
  • is never sent to us: no network request the app makes carries it to us;
  • is deleted when you delete it in the app (Saved Charts → delete, then remove from Deleted), or when you uninstall the app. With sync on, a deletion also reaches your Google Drive and your other devices; uninstalling removes only that device's copy.

Birth-city search runs against a location database bundled inside the app (GeoNames, licensed CC BY 4.0), offline, on the device. The app does not request or use your location, and asks for no location permission.

Google Drive sync (Android 1.5 and later)

Jyotish Notes for Android can keep your library in step across your devices through your own Google Drive. Sync is off until you turn it on in Settings → Sync, and you can switch it off at any time. More about how it works: Google Drive sync.

What the app asks Google for

One permission, Google Drive's app data folder (drive.appdata): a private folder in your Google Drive, accessible only to Jyotish Notes. It is hidden from other apps and does not appear among your files. The app cannot see, open, or change anything else in your Google Drive. Google shows the request on its own screen and you answer Google directly; the app never asks for, sees, or stores your Google password.

What goes into that folder

  • your saved charts: names, birth dates, times and places, and each chart's settings;
  • your chart notes, only if you also turn on the Chart notes switch;
  • your preferences, including your default city and saved places;
  • for each connected device, a small register of which files it holds and which it deleted, named by a random identifier the app creates on that device. It contains no device name, model, or other information about you.

What the app reads from your Google Account

To show which account is connected ("Connected as …" in Settings → Sync) and to keep each device on the account you chose, the app reads your Google Account's email address and Google's identifier for it. Both stay on your device.

Who cannot see it

The folder is secured by your Google Account. We cannot see it: your library goes from your device to your Google Drive and on to your other devices, never to us, and we operate no server that receives it. Other apps cannot see it either. A strong password and 2-Step Verification on your Google Account keep it that way.

Storage

The synced files count toward your Google Drive storage. They are small: a library of 900 charts takes less than 1 MB.

Stopping sync and removing the data

  • Pause: switch sync off in Settings → Sync. Nothing is deleted anywhere.
  • Disconnect: Settings → Sync → Disconnect Google Drive. You choose to delete everything Jyotish Notes put in your Google Drive and withdraw its access, or to disconnect only that device and leave the files in place. The charts and notes on the device are kept either way.
  • From a computer: delete the synced files at drive.google.com → Settings (the gear) → Manage apps → Jyotish Notes → Options → Delete hidden app data; withdraw the app's access at myaccount.google.com → Security → Your connections to third-party apps.
  • Uninstalling removes the app's data from that device only. The synced copy stays in your Google Drive until you delete it as above.

Google API Services User Data Policy

Jyotish Notes' use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The data is used only to sync your library between your own devices. It is not used for advertising, not sold, and not transferred to anyone.

Android Auto Backup

Separately from sync, Android can include the app's data in Android Auto Backup, the copy of your apps' data that Android makes to your Google Drive on its own schedule. Where you have it switched on (Settings → Google → Backup), your Jyotish Notes charts and preferences may be in it. That copy is made by Android, encrypted, stored in your own Google account, and governed by Google's privacy policy — not ours. We have no access to it whatsoever. Switching it off keeps your data on the device alone; leaving it on gives your charts a chance of surviving a lost or replaced phone, but Android alone decides when a backup runs, so it may be older than your latest work, or not exist yet. Treat it as a safety net rather than a guarantee.

From version 1.5, chart notes are left out of Android's cloud backup, because a year of notes can outgrow its size limit. Charts and preferences are still included. To have your notes on another device, turn on Chart notes in Settings → Sync.

Google Play and your subscription

Jyotish Notes is offered through an auto-renewing subscription, billed by Google Play. We never see, receive, or store your payment details, card number, billing address, or Google Account. The app asks Google Play one question — whether this account currently holds a subscription — and receives one answer. That exchange is between your device and Google; no part of it reaches us, and it carries nothing about you or your charts. Google Play itself may collect information under Google's own privacy policy — purchase history, diagnostics you have opted into, and similar — and none of it flows to Jyotish Notes.

Network requests the Android app makes

Three kinds, and none of them sends anything about you to us: one small file from jyotishnotes.com for occasional announcements, an ordinary web request that carries no identifier, no chart and no device profile, with no logs on our side tying it to a person; Google Play, about your subscription; and, with sync on, your own Google Drive. Everything else the app does happens offline.

Information we collect

None, on either platform. Jyotish Notes does not collect, transmit to us, store on our servers, sell, or share any personal information — or any information at all. We do not operate servers that receive data from the app. When you turn on sync, the app sends your library to your own iCloud or Google Drive, never to us.

Analytics, tracking, and third parties

The app contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, no crash-reporting services, and no third-party trackers of any kind. There are no third parties with whom your data could be shared, because none is collected. Sync stores your library in your own iCloud or Google Drive; it is not shared with us or anyone else.

Children's privacy

Because the app collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.

Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws)

Laws like the EU's GDPR and California's CCPA give you rights over personal data a company holds about you — access, correction, deletion, portability, and revoking consent. We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete. Your data lives on your device and, if you sync, in your own iCloud or Google Drive, entirely under your control: deleting it in the app removes it, and the synced copy can be deleted as described under iCloud sync and Google Drive sync.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app ever changes how data is handled, this policy will be updated before that version ships, with the effective date above revised. The current policy applies to all versions of Jyotish Notes released to date, on both platforms.
