Terms of Use

Jyotish Notes for iOS and Android · Effective October 6, 2026

The short version: Jyotish Notes is a notebook for Vedic astrology enthusiasts — a place to keep event notes beside a chart and watch the daśā and transit progressions that surround them. It draws both Parāśarī and Jaimini charts, so the same timeline can be followed through either system. What it does not do is read for you: it computes the classical positions and periods and shows them in motion, but it does not predict, advise, or interpret — every conclusion drawn from a chart is your own. Your charts and notes live on your device and, if you turn on sync, in your own Google Drive or iCloud — never with us — so keeping them is up to you. The app charges a nominal subscription to fund maintenance and continued development; subscriptions are billed by your app store — Google Play on Android, the App Store on iOS — renew automatically, and are cancelled in that store’s own subscription settings.

1. Agreement

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Deeptanshu Randive ("we", "us"), the developer of Jyotish Notes (the "app"). By downloading or using the app you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app. This agreement is between you and us alone — not with Apple and not with Google. Neither Apple nor Google is responsible for the app or its contents.

2. What Jyotish Notes is — and what it is not

Jyotish Notes computes astronomical positions and presents them through the conventions of Vedic astrology (Jyotiṣa): charts, daśā periods, transits, pañcāṅga, and related readings. It is offered for personal study, reflection, and reference.

Astronomical positions are computed to a high standard, but no calculation is warranted to be free of error. Do not use the app where an incorrect result could cause harm or loss.

3. Your licence

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on a device that you own or control. If you obtained the app from the Apple App Store, that licence is limited to Apple-branded devices, as permitted by the App Store Usage Rules in Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions, and the app may be accessed by other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing or volume purchasing where Apple makes that available. If you obtained it from Google Play, the licence is governed by the Google Play Terms of Service, and the app may be shared through Google Play Family Library where Google makes that available. On either platform you may not sell, rent, sublicense, redistribute, decompile, reverse-engineer, or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by applicable law.

4. Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation

Parts of the app are available through an auto-renewing subscription, offered on a monthly or yearly term.

If a subscription lapses, content you created remains on your device; features behind the subscription stop being available until it is renewed.

5. Your charts, notes, and backups

Everything you enter — names, birth details, saved charts, notes — is stored on your device and, if you turn on sync (version 1.5 and later), in your own Google Drive or iCloud, as described in our Privacy Policy. We keep no server copy, and we cannot see the synced one. That is a deliberate privacy choice, and it has one consequence you should understand: if you delete the app, lose your device, or reset it, we cannot recover your data. Keeping a device backup, or turning on sync, is your responsibility. You are also responsible for having the right to enter another person's birth details, and for how you use any reading you produce about them.

6. Acceptable use

Do not use the app to break the law, to harass, defraud, or frighten anyone, or to present its output as a professional diagnosis, a guarantee of any outcome, or a statement of fact about a person. Do not interfere with the app's operation or attempt to circumvent its subscription controls.

7. Intellectual property

The app — its software, design, text, and artwork — is owned by us and protected by copyright and other laws. These terms grant you a licence to use it, not ownership of it. The charts and notes you create remain yours.

8. Third-party components

Planetary and sidereal-time computation is by Astronomy Engine (MIT License © 2019–2023 Don Cross). City and location data is from GeoNames (geonames.org), licensed CC BY 4.0. Both run entirely on your device. Your use of these components is subject to their own licence terms, and those third parties are not responsible for the app.

9. No warranty

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind — express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any interpretation it displays will prove correct or suitable. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you. In the event of any failure of the app to conform to any warranty that cannot be disclaimed: if you bought it from the App Store, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, and to the maximum extent permitted by law Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app. If you bought it from Google Play, refunds are handled under Google Play’s refund policy, and to the maximum extent permitted by law Google has no warranty obligation with respect to the app.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, opportunity, or goodwill, arising out of your use of the app — including any decision you take in reliance on what it displays. Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

11. Maintenance and support

We are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for the app. Neither Apple nor Google has any obligation whatsoever to furnish maintenance or support services for it. Reach us at support@jyotishnotes.com.

12. Claims

We — not Apple and not Google — are responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app or your use of it — including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation. If a third party claims that the app or your permitted use of it infringes their intellectual property, we — not Apple and not Google — are solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of that claim.

13. Legal compliance

You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You agree to comply with all applicable third-party terms when using the app.

14. Apple as third-party beneficiary (App Store version)

This section is required by Apple and applies to the version of the app obtained from the Apple App Store. Apple and Apple’s subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. On your acceptance of them, Apple has the right — and is deemed to have accepted the right — to enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary. Google Play imposes no equivalent term, so no corresponding right arises for the Android version.

15. Changes

The app changes as it is developed; features may be added, altered, or withdrawn. We may update these terms, and will revise the effective date above when we do. Material changes will be reflected here before the version they apply to ships. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the revised terms.

16. Termination

You may end this agreement at any time by deleting the app and cancelling any subscription. We may suspend or end your licence if you materially breach these terms. Sections 2, 7, 9, 10, 12, and 17 survive termination.

17. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. This does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer-law rights in the country where you live.
